Humans are poor caretakers of the planet. My kind have tried to shepherd them. They still sucked at it.
I am Buffy Badmoon. I am the last of my kind. There are few of any kind left after the Incident, of which we do not speak. By day I am a hot blonde chick, by night I am a Loup Garou, a Lycan ... a Werewolf.
There is no society left to hunt us, no community left to continue the destruction of the already devastated world. We will rebuild it. And we will we rebuild it better.
GAZ NOTE: Hi! This is my entry to the November 2018 Apocalypse Challenge. So much has happened since the last time, perhaps the most relevant change is that I am no longer an adjudicator of the tournament (and indeed have not been for some time), which means that this time I can actually compete!
For this attempt, I am using Buffy Badmoon as a founder, and she has the following traits:
- Ambitious (always a strong choice)
- Bookworm (for her career - see below)
- Charismatic (helps with Charisma skill, obviously)
- Genius (Logic skill is handy, but this was basically just to fill out the 5)
- Slob (very handy for early sans-Medical and Culinary play)
My goal in this challenge is to reduce to a minimum, as rapidly as possible, all of the random elements that might otherwise ruin my day. Journalism, I feel, provides the most control over jobs for subsequent Sims.
I'm doing an Occult Apocalypse, in particular Call of the Wild (aka The Werewolf Apocalypse), mostly because I haven't really done that before.
My advantages and handicaps are:
- Heavily Guarded (extra curfew time; -5 points)
- Higher Education (Uni start; -5 points)
- Mental Endurance (elders controllable for 3 days; -5 points)
- Bloodline Only (no spouses/etc can lift; +5 points)
- Everyone's A Critic (can't write books at Uni; +5 points)
- Greedy Gangsters (Monday and Thursday criminal payments; +5 points)
- It's Hopeless (can never move in marry; +10 points)
- No Country for Old Sims (elders live only 4 days; +10 points)
- Pack Rivalry (can only breed with mundanes; +10 points)
- Walk to Work (need Athletics 10 to go to work; +10 points)
I'm playing with Ambitions, Showtime, Supernatural, University Life, and World Adventures. I loathe Generations with the fury of a thousand burning sons, I have no interest in Pets, I have never really played with Island Paradise and I do not care for my first excursion with it to be a competitive one. Night Life offers little if you're not playing vampires. And I have hard enough times spotting collectibles without covering them in snow, so Seasons is out too.
So let's get started. I do the aptitude test, and then apply for Uni:
Now the point here is that I can actually get away with spending very little money here. The aptitude test should reliably give me 6 credits each time, so if I go for 4 1 term attempts, that's 24 credits right there. That means I only need to take 6 credits each term, which in turn means that the financial aid of $1000 is more than the tuition cost. I will certainly lose a little - there is a $600 Criminal fee each semester - but I should come home with most of my $8308 intact, so the inability to write novels at Uni will not bite too hard. Let's see what Buffy has to say.
The military are in control now, but they don't want just soldiers to fight the mutant beasts that roam the neighbourhood. I apply for a communications major; the best way to make humans aware of my plans is to start some sort of periodical - a newspaper, perhaps. I can hardly do worse that the useless rag that passes for journalism in the post apocalyptic nightmare. It seemed like only minutes passed before I was on my way to the heavily guarded college where I would spend the next 4 terms.
There were several dorm rooms; one had a toilet. I claimed this for myself. None were rash enough to challenge me. After making myself presentable in the mirror, I made several acquaintances, noting their usefulness as later potential breeding partners. This was... difficult. These are not good breeding stock - they lack even basic toilet training. But I must not be too choosy - that is a luxury that will be left to my daughters.
GAZ NOTE: Well, there's always good news and bad news. The bad news is that the very first time she used the cerebral machine she got shocked, so that was out for the entire first term. However, she did manage to get Charisma 6, Logic 3, Painting 1, and Writing 4 - not a great haul, but it could have been worse (and of course I got a Dean's List for the actual academic portion). This took around 3 hours effort real time - a decent start.

You're not missing much with Island Paradise off. I'm running it so I can build a resort to clear Politics instead of the rabbithole career, but that's basically it.
ReplyDeleteWell yeah, but on the other hand I've used that same Island Paradise excuse for years now. I really ought to get around to trying it out, if only to justify the purchase. ;)
DeleteGood luck with your own attempt!
I love hearing your reasons for the choices you make. Always very well thought out.
ReplyDeleteAnd as an added bonus it serves as a reminder to me. :)
DeleteI generally eliminate the same expacs you did, but I have to play with seasons, it's my fave expac and my weakness.-Katrina
ReplyDeleteIt's very much a sweet sorrow case for me. Thematically I'm a big fan of Seasons, and if they still allowed the snow angels from the start there really couldn't be any reason to ignore it. Plus it's really fun to freeze Sims to death.
DeleteBut my problem with Seasons is as above - I suck at finding collectibles, and REALLY suck if they're buried under snow. Knowing my limits, I choose to play without it.
Showtime ended up being useful for the genie lamps. World Adventures was just a few extra collectibles in effect (and those were gathered by werewolf hunting, so it's not like I planned that); could have left that off and avoided the seemingly constant opportunities that clutter things up.
If I do a second attempt, I might try it with Seasons, Generations, University Life, and Island Paradise. (Can't leave out UL for the same reason you need Seasons - UL is my favourite).
